Easter Egg Hunt 2002

The 2002 Easter Egg Hunt ran from April 1st to 15th, and caused much gnashing of teeth and angry tirading. It was indeed very difficult-- not unlike hunting for black eggs in a goth's bedroom. Some people managed to find all ten, however, so I feel vindicated. These are the ten pictures that were hidden, along with the MST quotes that would have led you to them.

No Need For Birth Control

Preview image of mayuka.jpg It's been a long time since I saw the second Tenchi-Muyo movie, but this was worth it: the women of this series have a predilection for wearing outfits with patterns that deform deliciously when they grow big with child. Ryoko wears horizontal stripes, Kiyone wears vertical stripes, and Mayuka wears polka dots... the irony here is that when I agreed to do the picture, it'd been so long since I saw the movie, I thought Mayuka was the wild Urd-like witch who'd been controlling Tenchi's daughter. Shoot, I'll draw the prettier one if you like, twist my arm...

MST Quote: "Bite me!" --Everyone, but usually attributed to Crow

Chi-Chi-Chi-Chi-Changes

Preview image of chichi.jpg This is a picture that Casual Otaku requested after winning (and being the only entrant) in a secret contest I held on the message board. He's got a serious thing for Chi Chi-- which is rather surprising to me, since I never saw any of the episodes where she was cute! This is a Chi Chi who has not yet learned the art of pussywhipping, who has happily joined with her betrothed and is eagerly anticipating their first... UNTIL she discovered one of the little biological quirks peculiar to those nutty Saiyans.

MST Quote: "I'm huge!" --used in many movies, usually when the camera was held at a low viewpoint

Athena Thwollen Damthel!

Preview image of athena.jpg Most, if not all, of the requests I get are for video game characters-- they get more exposure than the manga/anime characters I usually choose. That's understandable, since bringing a video game to the States usually proves to be far more profitable than a videotape series or comic book. I'm something of an old-schooler in the game department, though-- the NES and SNES are more my style than all this Microsoft and Sony garbage. Thus I chose to honor one of the first pretty girls to ever be the heroine of a video game; Athena, from the SNK game of the same name.
The game is pretty stupid-- Athena has grown tired of being a mere goddess(???) and is going on a trip to become the Princess of Fantasy. And she accessorizes with all sorts of weird helmets and swords and fishtails and whatnot, all the way fighting hostile okapis and mean Grimaces. But she is pretty-- they showed her face on the title screen, and she's nicer-looking than any of the hundred zillion princesses that were saved in games that came out the same year.

MST Quote: "Mitchell!" --from, of course, Show 512, Mitchell

The Choice Of A New Generation

Preview image of ai.jpg Yay, finally another Transformers picture! Boy, I can't wait to meet some of the hot ladies who will undoubtedly show up in the new Armada cartoon... anyway, here's T-AI (or just Ai if you're watching Car Robots), who is actually a hologram. In Robots In Disguise, she claimed to be the daughter of Teletraan-1, the computer who advised the original Optimus Prime aboard the Ark, in a voice that not-so-coincidentally resembled Casey Kasem's. Does this mean she might one day have a daughter of her own?
We discussed this picture in advance on the message board, and originally I thought this pseudo-pregnancy would be Koji's fault. However, I gave it to Side Burn, whom I have a soft spot for-- he may be an oafish fool with a fetish for red sports cars, but he does work hard at his job and get results, making him one of the most positive perverts on television, right up there with Smithers and Gonzo.

MST Quote: "Poopie!" --usually TV's Frank

Super-Duper Family Complex

Preview image of nanami.jpg Another character from Revolutionary Girl Utena, Nanami is one of those girls who really loves her brother. She really, really, really, really loves her brother. A lot. How much does she love him? Well, when they were kids, she got Touga a kitten for his birthday, but he liked the kitten so much that he played with it more often than he did with her. So she drowned it in a canal. She's grown up now, and an accomplished kendo champion, but she still doesn't let anyone come between her and her brother.

Tam A Go-Go

Preview image of mink.jpg This is one that I've been stalling on for eons-- Mink is one of my favorite characters of all time. (You can see some her influence in Wilder, now that I think about it.) I was inspired to finally do it by a conversation on Cheviot's message board, where artist Mark Stretch confessed that he thought of my art style as "super deformed." Fair enough, I suppose. For the sake of my ego, though, I had to draw this, to remind myself what it looks like when I draw in super-deformed style, as opposed to the normal way. I'm not really offended, though-- if Mark Stretch doesn't really like my artwork, I think it means I'm doing something right.

MST Quote: "Watch out for snakes!" --Disembodied voice in Show 506, Eegah!

Look, Sir--Droids!

Preview image of roll.jpg Those who read my message board will recall that, in a fit of ridiculousness, I started something called "Mega Mamas," which is basically all-pregnant Mega Man costume play. I call it cosplay because they're obviously women (albeit robot women), but they're dressed in costumes and armor based on the male robots who appeared in the Mega Man games. However, that leaves out Roll, the one female character to appear in any of those games, so we have her here in the normal gallery, as regular-style fan art, looking like she's about to pop her restraining bolt.
You may have noticed that many of the women in this gallery are wearing exaggerated cuffs. In comparing this picture with the above picture of Mink, you may notice another pattern developing; diminutive guys standing behind the girl and looking silly.

MST Quote: "Push the button, Frank." --Dr. Forrester

Onshitsu No Kumo

Preview image of kumo.jpg This picture has several amazing things about it: One is that it's the first picture I was ever commissioned to draw! By my own girlfriend, but still. Another unique quality this picture has is that the characters, Tatsuya and Reika, are two that no one has ever met before-- they were created by Mistress Fire-Hazard for her own comic series, Onshitsu No Kumo.

Reika was on her way to school one day when she saw a crystal ball falling out of the sky. She caught it, and it became Tatsuya, a charming chlorophyllic alien who was being punished for being arrogant. Whomever caught his crystal prison would become his master, and his own personality would be changed to that of his master's ideal mate!
One interesting thing about this story is that Reika actually does become pregnant, but not by Tatsuya... which leads her to choose an abortion. This picture, obviously, depicts a happier alternative for the two of them.

Hangin' With Ms. Zukin

Preview image of pipistrelle.jpg The town where I live has a pretty lousy arcade selection, but one of the best is at the theater where I work; a local game collector (I call him "Mr. Game And Watch") actually rents out a space in the lobby to show some of his best stuff. One of the most popular ones at the moment is Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix-- but it's a Japanese edition, so I couldn't read most of the text.
Thus, I was unaware of the name of the girl in the bat suit that had stolen my heart in the demo, who lured me to the arcade every chance I got, hoping to catch a glimpse of her. I dubbed her "Pipistrelle" and set about to honor her in the PG-13 way, knowing nothing about her except that she was also known to wear a kitty suit, and that she never ever smiled. (Which meant I had to give her a reason to.)
Since completing this picture, I've learned that her real name is "Devil Zukin." Shrug.

MST Quote: "There was no monster..."
Complete version: "Suddenly there was no trail. There was no giant, no monster, no thing called Douglas to be followed. There was nothing in the tunnel but the puzzled men of courage who suddenly found themselves alone with shadows and darkness... Frank Douglas was rescued alive, well, and of normal size some 8,000 miles away."
--From Show 421, Monster a Go-Go

Free Milk!

Preview image of cremia.jpg This picture is one that Mistress Fire-Hazard had been bugging me to do for almost a year. It's also my first full-color comic page! Granted, it's only ONE page, but a step up is a step up. I've wanted to do a picture of Malon since the website first went up, but having drawn this, it becomes somewhat moot.
This quote was supposed to be the stumper, but I'd overestimated the popularity of "There was no monster," so they came to a stalemate; some people found one, but not the other.

MST Quote: "He tried to kill me with a forklift..."
The full song:

"This is the song, written for the train chase
This is the chase, Rocky and Ken!
He triiied to kill me with a forklift!
    Olé!"
    --From Show 310, Fugitive Alien
