Gold Diggers
Gold Diggers is an anthropomorphic comic with a huge following-- or at least a following large and supportive enough that it can now be published in glossy color. These were donated by Felicia.
gd1.jpg Our star here is a harpy, Charlotte, who isn't actually pregnant, but merely stuffed with lots and lots of airline peanuts. Not entirely germain, but it's my website, and I get to break the rules when I see fit!
gd2.jpg The revelation of what Charlotte is-- and why it'd be more appropriate for her to lay eggs, now that I think about it...
gd3.jpg The most dramatic shot of Charlotte, and she's all pouty and sad. How I wish I could give her what she wanted...
lostframe.jpg Charlotte's not visibly swollen in this picture, but she's exhibiting a mindset that I can't help but support.
Groo The Wanderer
Sergio Aragones's ludicrous adventures of an swordsman sans brains have been continuing for years now, surviving wave after wave of superhero fads and just doing its own thing. Look through enough Groo and you're bound to find something relevant to our cause.... These scans were contributed by Stephen.
groo1.jpg The story of the birth of Groo himself is retold in this page. Hard to believe a goof like Groo would have such a cute mom, but there she is. Oh, and the line "The cattle are dying" is a Welcome Back, Kotter reference.
groo2.jpg Groo's mama again, this time pregnant with a younger sibling. I think it's her own mom behind her.
groo3.jpg One last image of her, and a close-up of Groodaddy; unfortunately, young Groo apparently takes after his mother in no way whatsoever.
The Big Book of Urban Legends
Anyone who tells you there's no urban legends about pregnancy has never been pregnant themselves. This book retells 160 urban legends, each drawn by a different talented cartoonist. I won't give you the whole story, because I strongly recommend you buy the "Big Book" series yourself, but here are some selections:
bbul1.gif From the story "The Baby Train." The Baby Train is just a local colloquialism for "the stork"-- or is it?
bbul2.gif From "The Bad Bachelorette." Just a typical married couple radiant with anticipation, right? You wouldn't say that if you had been at her bridal shower...
bbul3.gif From "The Green Stamps." This is one of the few urban legends whose source we know-- it was a firsthand account from Donna DeLacy, who now lives in San Francisco. I've never lived anywhere that used green trading stamps... do they still exist?
bbul4.gif From "Special Delivery." A young woman goes on a beach vacation with her boyfriend and comes back with something very unusual growing in her stomach. This could be considered a sequel to some of the 'tentacle rape' porn stories out there.
British Postcards
Groovy little Swingin' Sixties postcards from England. The first three were found on eBay; the fourth was sent to me by our own Ottomaniac.
engcard1.JPG Notice the little emphasis-lines emanating from this girl's stomach, the kind that would usually mean she'd eaten something huge.
engcard2.JPG This is similar to one of the From Here To Maternity cartoons, except that you actually can see this woman's slip. This kind of spoils the punch line; now it's about as funny as "Who farted?"
engcard3.jpg Cute girl, but the eerie thing about this card is the phone on the doctor's desk; it doesn't have any buttons, just the face of Boss Smiley.
engcard4.jpg Otto-chan sent me this (which explains the ink smears), in exchange for some CD compilations (which I still haven't gotten to, like a jerk). Notice that this woman is apparently dating Doug Funnie.
madkes.jpg I've never been able to sit through MAD Magazine's long, dull, generic-looking movie and TV parodies, but an early Star Trek: Voyager spoof gave us this cute picture of a pregnant Kes. You can tell it's an early one because they use a variant of the name "Doc Zimmerman," which was used in promotional materials, but never in the actual show. Contributed by Stephen.
